Frequently Asked Questions

Check out our FAQ list and hopefully it will give you the information you seek. If not, drop us an email and we will be happy to respond.

Q: How often do you meet?
A: We have a general meeting every month except for January.

Q: What do you do at your general monthly meetings?
A: We have a formal part where the workings of the club is discussed, including any proposed trips and events. We then usually have a guest speaker, and break to chat with other members and enjoy a drink of tea/coffee or soft drink (for a small donation!)

Q: Do you have a newsletter?
A: We produce a monthly newsletter which is distributed to our members via email or a hardcopy is provided if requested. This newsletter shows details of up coming events, training, trip reports, helpful information and keeps our members informed of any Club news. The newsletters are also made available on this web site.

Q: Can I come out and try before becoming a member?
A: Absolutely. We allow new members to trial us, for up to 3 of our events before they need to become a member of the club.

Q: Do I have to own a 4WD before coming a member?
A: Not really. You are welcome to join our group and team up with existing members. We also welcome AWD and 4WD without low range but some trips may not be suitable, given maybe some lack of ground clearance and/or travelling in soft/steep terrains. Its up to you!

Q: Can I become a trip leader of a club event?
A: Absolutely. We encourage our members to lead us on our adventures. We provide the necessary training so that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities.

Q: I'm new to 4 wheel driving. Will this be a problem?
A: Everyone has to start somewhere.  We encourage new members to learn as part of the group. We also offer driver training courses so you can, if you want to, formalise your skills and gain the necessary confidence to really enjoy your 4WD experiences.

Q: Will I end up damaging my vehicle?
A: We take every step possible to ensure that no unnecessary risks are taken. You do not have to do anything you are not fully comfortable with. Our experienced members can offer advise and show you how to proceed without causing damage to your vehicle.  We are not extreme in our 4WD endeavours and most trips are "track" checked prior to them being undertaken. Each member is encouraged to ensure they carry all the necessary recovery, safety and first aid equipment on all of our trips.

Q: Do I need a UHF radio?
A: It's an advantage to have your own UHF radio fitted within your vehicle.  The club owns several hand held units which are suitable for new members to try during any of its trips. Whilst these are shorter in range (distance) than vehicle fitted units, they serve as a useful communication chain whilst being part of our 4WD convoy. With everyone able to communicate with each other its like we have another pair of eyes and ears of what's happening both ahead and behind you.
